We join our Year 2 Caterpillar Diaries children who are back with more fun facts about Caterpillars and give you the latest on where we are with our
Rotherhithe Primary School are collaborating with Food Growing Schools London in an exciting cross curricula project where children will be educated in food production and sustainability and to inspire a love of nature and gardening. This project will also involve our community in shared growing.
Every year group will be assigned a raised garden bed (already in place) and each class will decide what to grow and explore the process of plant growth. Children will discuss the benefits of healthy and sustainable eating.
A gardener from the local community will be employed to run sessions with classes and teach them how to plant, grow, nurture and harvest.
In support of this, parent volunteers will be invited to support sessions. Once harvested, children will cook their food in our Practical Room and write about the process. In addition, parents who want to be involved will be given clippings to grow on their balconies as the project develops.
