For the final half term of Music this year, the Year 6s created an original musical composition. They began by learning about the different sections of a song, their purpose and how to speak the rhythm of the words – in preparation for song writing to a backing track. Their task was to write a song based on the theme: Aspiration. The song needed to inspire and motivate them as well as the listener.
They began by collaborating as a class to write a chorus together, which required creativity, democracy (to vote on the ideas they liked the most) and light-heartedness, in order to not be too upset if their idea wasn’t chosen in the first instance. Once that was completed, they worked individually or in small groups and were coached by their teacher to write a short verse.
The final part of the unit was a highlight for all students: they recorded their verse in the mini recording studio we set up using high quality equipment. For the majority of the Year 6s, this was the first time they’d recorded their own voices professionally! Both classes have written excellent songs with heartfelt lyrics that reflect their aspiration for greatness and resilience! Well done to everyone!
