According to Asthma UK, over 1.1 million children in the UK are being treated for asthma. That’s 1 in 11 children, meaning that the average primary school class contain 3 asthmatic children. Asthma can be life threatening. With that said, many fatalities are preventable though speedy action.
Therefore, we agreed to be part of a study that looks at raising asthma awareness in school children. On Thursday 14th year 5 children took part in workshops led by medical students from Kings College. The workshops covered child centric basic physiology, asthma triggers and how to help a peer who is having an acute asthma attack. The workshop also covered how asthma is treated and misconceptions about the condition.
