We joined Owen Wales, our KS1 Music Teacher and Brass Coach today with some of our talented children for a Brass session in the music room. Brass instruments have been around for thousands of years used in historical military campaigns and religious ceremonies. These instruments have had a huge effect on the development of music around the world.
Brass instruments have a long, coiled tube – this is what air is blown through. The pitch, known as fundamental pitch or pedal tone, is determined by the tube’s length. To play a brass instrument, you produce a “buzzing” sound through the mouthpiece at end of the metal tube. The children have been working hard to master these instruments, which can be difficult.
We took some pictures of our musicians, which can be seen in the gallery below. Please click on the thumbnails for a larger view.
