This week Rotherhithe Primary School has been celebrating all things artistic and creative for Art, DT and Computing Week 2023. We are focusing on two artists for our subject focus. These artists are Piet Mondrian for KS1 and Hilma af Klint for KS2.
Piet Mondrian:
Dutch artist Piet Mondrian is one of the greatest figures of modern art and abstract painting. With his compositions of black lines closing up rectangles of primary colors, Mondrian created some of the most iconic works of early twentieth-century abstract art.
Hilma af Klint:
Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings are considered among the first abstract works known in Western art history. A considerable body of her work predates the first purely abstract compositions by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian.
Tote Bags:
Inspired by our recent visits to the Tate Modern to see the works of these two amazing artists, our children have been creating their own interpretations of their works and then using their DT skills, designed and built a Tote bag by repurposing an old white T-Shirt and adding their design to it. You can see some of these fabulous bags in the gallery below from the creative stage through to the build stage and the completed product.
A huge well done to our budding artists and product designers of the future.
