This week, Year 6 classes have been studying sound and how soundwaves effect different particles. As part of their science unit on ‘Sound’, Year 6 explored how vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear.
Sound travels as waves, specifically longitudinal waves, which require a medium (like air, water, or solids) to propagate. These waves are created by vibrating objects, and they travel by causing the particles of the medium to vibrate. The sound wave travels through the medium, with each particle bumping into the next, carrying the sound energy onward.
