As part of our Spanish Day celebrations, Year 6 took part in a hands-on culinary session where they learned to make traditional empanadas. This engaging activity was designed to deepen their understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures through food, language, and collaborative learning.
The activity also supported cross-curricular learning:
- Maths: Measuring ingredients and dividing dough equally.
- Geography: Mapping the origins of empanadas across the Spanish-speaking world.
-
Art: Designing recipe sheets for their empanadas.
-
Science: Identifying which food groups the ingredients are from and what nutrients they provide us.
The session concluded with students proudly sharing their empanadas and many expressed excitement about trying the recipe again at home!
