This week we had a special assembly to celebrate National Poetry Day. We spoke about all of the reasons why we might read poetry, such as humour, language appreciation and gaining new perspectives on people and the world.
The children were introduced to our school’s new ‘Poets of the Month’ – each class will focus on a different poet, explore their unique writing style and read one of their poems each day. The assembly ended with performances from each of the KS2 classes, including some year 6 children who read poems they had written themselves. We were all so impressed with their confidence, expression and creativity!
