It’s STEAM Week 2026 this week and Rotherhithe Primary School has opened it’s week of all things Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with an assembly introducing two very special guests.
Our first guest was Billy Roden; a local veterinary surgeon from Petals Vets. Billy is the Co Owner and Co Founder of Petal Vets located in Grove Street, London SE8.
About Billy:
As a vet, I love that I have the privilege of supporting a pet’s journey through life whilst getting to know them and their families. I love seeing a name on the consult list and instantly knowing the mischievous pet who’s about to trot into the room. So after years of dedicated service in various veterinary settings, I wanted to create a space that prioritises what really makes being a vet so rewarding — building real lifelong connections with pets and their families.
During the assembly, Billy told us all about the many tasks that a Vet has, ranging from looking after domestic pets right through to livestock such as Cattle and Horses and even exotic animals.
After the assembly, Billy spent some time in both Whale Class and with our Reception children where he demonstrated some of the activities that take place on a daily basis at his practice.
You can find out more about Billy and his Vetinary Practice by visiting his website. Please go to https://www.petals.vet/ for more information. We took some pictures of Billy’s classroom visits, which can be seen in the gallery below. Please click on the thumbnails below for a larger view. We also recorded the assembly this morning, which will be available to watch later this evening once edited. Please check back later to hear from both Billy and local artist Rod Kitson, who also spoke to the children today.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our visitors and look forward to seeing them again soon.
