On Wednesday the children listened to a special virtual Remembrance Day Assembly led by Sue. This considered why we hold Remembrance Day each year. At 11 am the children took part in a minute silence led by the call of the Last post played on a bugle. Children were also given the opportunity to make their own poppies.
Year 5 & 6 children considered the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ written by John McCrae. In the poem the soldier makes a plea for others to take up the torch and remember why they have died.
Amal in Thames class has written this thoughtful response:
“We will remember the people who died
There the poppies grow
In Flanders Fields there they lay
In the ground below
Letting go of the grief is slow
There the poppies grow
In Flanders Fields”
Well done Amal!
