On Wednesday 1st October Luke Lennon-Ford a British sprinter visited RPS. Luke is coached by Linford Christie and took part with team GB in the London Olympics in 2012. He won a silver medal at the IAAF World indoor championships in 2014.
Pupils were challenged to complete circuit training, with Luke leading them, throughout the morning. They had a very energetic time, completing task such as pushups and star jumps. It was great to see the children enjoying such exertions.
We are extremely impressed that the children raised an amazing £ in sponsorship money leading up to this event. Our thanks to Daniel (our PE instructor) for organising the day.
Luke led a special assembly describing his training. He also talked about nutrition encouraging the children to eat healthily and to drink lots of water (no McDonalds!)
He showed the children a film clip of the relay race in which he won a silver medal. It was very inspiring.
Some children were lucky enough to have a photograph taken with Luke due to the amount of money that they had raised.
Well done to all children. Part of the money will be used to purchase PE equipment for the school. The rest will help sponsor Olympians like Luke to continue to train and participate in sporting events. The school and Luke are extremely appreciative of your contributions.
