Rotherhithe Primary School has been running Forest School for children in the early years and year 1 for the past 6 years. This programme takes small groups of children to an enclosed Nature Reserve in Southwark Park to investigate and experience nature. This has been extremely successful in supporting children’s ability to communicate with one another, work in teams and solve problems.
Some of the activities include:
- Digging and planting vegetables
- Finding out about bugs and insects
- Pond dipping
- Making collections
- Identifying birds and bird watching
- Den building
- Building fires
Children will attend the Thursday afternoon session 12:30 – 3.00pm. They will eat a packed lunch (provided by the school) in the nature garden before starting our session.
