Joseph Ikhinmwin is a GB basketball player who was raised in the East End of London. He delivered an amusing workshop today, sharing the inspirational story of how he was encouraged by a teacher at school to play basketball. It was fantastic to hear and see him challenge the myth, that those who are good at sports are just naturally talented. He demonstrated how he had needed to be resilient, persistent and hardworking to become so good at his sport: A truly admirable life lesson.
He encouraged all children to have aspirational dreams for the future. The children had a truly fun time exercising as they completed their circuit activities today and we hope this will motivate them to keep exercising at school and at home. This event is a fundraising event; in part to raise money for P.E. equipment for the school. We have raised £147.41 from donations collected at the gate, for dressing up in sports clothes.
A huge thank you to you all. It is also to raise money to sponsor athletes to compete for our country who may struggle to do so for financial reasons. Children who have raised £5 of sponsors can earn a blue wrist band.
Those who have raised £15 or more can earn an autographed red wrist band. So please start collecting money from the sponsors. Please make sure you send money into school in an envelope with your child’s name, class and indicate that it is for the Sports Challenge.
Thank you!
