Currently year 2 and 3 have 3 classes. This was due to the local authority asking the school to open additional classes due to an expected high intake in those year groups. The reality is, however, that London schools have falling rolls. This means that more children are moving out of the borough and overseas. As a consequence, these classes are not full (a full class typically has 30 children in it).
Due to the falling numbers and also because the school are losing 3 classrooms in the first stage of the new build construction, it has been necessary to create a ‘vertically grouped’ class. This class will be next years Cutty Sark class. It will have a mixture of year 4 and 5 children in it. The teacher who has been selected to teach this class has many years’ experience teaching mixed class groups and is always focused on extending all learners in her class.
Current Year 2 and 3 classes will be mixed into 2 classes in each year group next year. If you have any further questions, please ask. Please also see the attached classroom plan to help you locate your child’s classroom when we return next year.
